Timeless Places is a photographic series by Richard Stringer that explores the atmosphere, history and enduring character of places across England, Wales and Ireland.

Richard built his career as a renowned architectural photographer, with work held in national and state galleries and libraries. Alongside that professional practice, he has continued to pursue fine art photography with a strong interest in place, structure and visual memory.

Architecture and History

The photographs in this series were made during a recent journey through the United Kingdom and Ireland. Rather than documenting landmarks in a purely descriptive way, Richard sought to capture the quiet presence of each location.

His images focus on the relationship between architecture, landscape and time. Weathered stone, historic buildings, windows, walls and rural settings become more than subjects. They carry traces of memory and suggest lives, events and histories that remain partly hidden.

Richard’s architectural background informs the way he composes each photograph. He pays close attention to balance, proportion, perspective and the way light falls across a surface. At the same time, the images retain a sense of spontaneity and atmosphere.

A Sense of Timelessness

Each photograph presents a place as Richard encountered it, but also as something shaped by history. Light, texture and weather help create a mood that feels both immediate and removed from the present.

In Timeless Places, Richard Stringer invites viewers to look beyond the visible subject. The photographs encourage reflection on what endures, what changes and how places hold the memory of those who have passed through them.

The series brings together Richard’s experience as an architectural photographer and his personal approach to fine art photography. The result is a body of monochrome work that values stillness, observation and the lasting presence of place.
